Awaken the Creativity Within

I was recently watching an episode of Masterchef Australia – The one in which one of my favorite contestants Aaron Harvie was eliminated. Harvie was upbeat even on his elimination and as a parting comment, here’s what he said “I reignited my creative side. It’s like another part of me has woken up. For that I will be eternally grateful.” He also mentioned that he was bordering on 40, and at that age it really means something to be creative.

Indeed, a very profound comment.

Creativity is defined as the “Ability to produce something new through imaginative skill, whether a new solution to a problem, a new method or device, or a new artistic object or form. The term generally refers to a richness of ideas and originality of thinking” (Src: http://www.answers.com/topic/creativity)

We are all born with some innate creativity. The forms of creative expression are varied ranging from music (vocal or instrumental), dance, writing, sketching, painting (oil, charcoal, spray, glass, water, etc. etc. etc.), ikebana, cooking, interior decoration, fashion designing, calligraphy, jewellery design, …. The list is endless. Creativity can also be exhibited in our day to day lives in the way we perform our daily functions.

However with time and age, the inner creative streak becomes dormant. Either it is lost in the drudgery of our day to day lives OR we become so stereotypical in the way we conduct our lives that the element of creativity is subdued OR we unconsciously program ourselves to be less creative.

It is very important to rekindle the creativity within. Whatever form creative expression that an individual chooses is entirely a personal preference. What is critical is to ensure that the inner creativity is fuelled periodically – This is one of the building blocks for an enriching life.

Awaken the creativity within; and see how your life changes
