One of the most common complaint that I have heard in the recent past is - "I would have done 100 things right and 3 things wrong. However all the wrong that I do is highlighted and all the right is simply ignored - There is no appreciation, or even acknowledgment...."
This was what I heard from people of all age groups - Right from a 12 year old school girl when she spoke about her parents, to a 32 year old married woman when she spoke about her spouse, to several working professionals when they spoke about their bosses, to a 50 year old man when he spoke about his spouse , to a old couple (in their late 60's) when they spoke about each other and to a 72 year old man when he spoke about his family.
Well, age or sex or location or phase of life or social standing appears to have no influence on this common complaint.
Why is it that we find it so hard to acknowledge and appeciate all that our dear ones do for us? Can't we say Thank You once in a way? If Thank You is too formal a communication tool, can't we in our own sweet way acknowledge and appreciate everything good that our near and dear ones have done for us? Not only does it make the other person happy, but it also helps strengthen our relationships. After all, it is a positive gesture and if one gives anything positive, you get back positivity in your life - and that too in an amplied and glorified way!
Why is it that we find it so easy to criticize? Are we naturally programmed that way or have we conditioned ourselves to become that way? Why is it so easy to overlook all the good and microscopically magnify the negatives? And that too when they are in such a small number. After all, we are all human and do come with our own positives and negatives!
What is important is to "Change our perspective". To look at the good and possibly ignore the few short-comings. To take a minute to acknowledge all the good in our lives, and be grateful for all the good that everyone has done and is doing for us! Say Thank You to all those who matter for all the wonderful things they do to do to make our lives worthwhile!!!
