Change...

"Nothing is permenant but Change". How true! We are constantly changing in all dimensions (physical, emotional, mental and spiritual). I heard an interesting insight on Change. The change agent / trigger / catalyst / cause can be external / internal. However, it is important to acknowledge & recognize that we are the instruments of the change.
Three important things which are of paramount importance in change
1) A deep understanding of "What to change?" - One needs to be clear about what you want to change..
2) "How to change?" - One needs to make a transition & this requires one to take focused dedicated action to achieve this change
3) "Want to change" - This is most imporant. Even if you know "What to change?" and "How to change?", without the "Want to change" in most likelihood, this will be an academic / theoretical analysis. One should have that inner desire / motivation / self-will to make the change happen. Only then will one see the visible change results..

2010 : How far have we come...

2010 is an important year... It’s been a decade since gradation, Close to a decade of professional work experience & achieving several other personal milestones.
Over the recent past, have spoken (out of the blue) to several old friends / acquaintances (I myself am amazed that I call some of them my friends today & am still in touch - Especially for some one like me :)
Some highlights / personal observations:
1) I am amazed with the achievements of some of these individuals. Most of them have studied in the best schools in India & the world. Some of them are today CEO's, CTO's, VP's, Directors, etc. and super achievers (including the global awards & felicitations that some of them have received) in a variety of fields (IT of course, Banking, Marketing, Mining, Fashion Design, Interior Decoration, Education, Medicine, Law, etc. etc. - The list is endless). Some of these were always the so called "academic stars"; so their achievements come as no surprise to us. But some of them (we honestly used to wonder what they would make of themselves) have broken all myths & barriers w.r.t where they stand today & I am proud to know these people at sometime in life .
2) I am also surprised with the personal choices that many of these individuals have made w.r.t the choice of the life partner (which is one of life's most important decision), the choice of which part of the world to settle down in, the risks / gambles taken in life, priorities in life, etc.
3) Past memories - Each of us have probably been through the same event / experience at some point in time. But what we choose to recall & carry with us for the rest of our life is very different (& many times surprisingly funny & interesting).
What is heartwarming however is the bond that we have; & that irrespective of the time since we last spoke & the nature of the relationship – There is a connection. And what is even more fascinating for me is the memory they have of me (something which gives me a good laugh & makes me realize how far I have come in life & how much I have transformed)

Time....

I have been speaking to several people recently (friends, family, professional colleagues) & everyone seems to unanimously echoing the sentiment on the scarcity of time in life. I was wondering if this has anything to do with age, phase of life, location, gender, etc. But surprisingly, NO. These are people from all walks of life, all phases of life, all ages, all parts of the world (For e.g.: school kids /college kids /home-makers /working professionals, single / married / married with kids, etc )
Something to ponder about... When did I last feel pressed for time? I don't recall anytime for the past few years.. In fact, off late I find myself with surplus time that I don't know how to best utilize this... Why? I ask myself...
Well, following are some of the things which I could instantly recognize:
1) Clarity of priorities - Be clear on your priorities in life & apportion your time accordingly. You cannot afford to have more that 3 high priority items at any point in life. If you do, you won't do justice to either
2) You cannot make everyone happy all the time . So instead of aiming to keep everyone happy & living your life is accordance with others expectations, learn to balance this. It is a self acquired art.
3) Acknowledge that you are human. And like every human, you do have your limitations. There is no need to be Superman / Superwoman everytime. Sometimes its OK to lose, Sometimes its OK to not even participate & It surely is GOOD to win sometimes.
And lastly, Remember that Nothing lasts Forever (including Time)

Health is Wealth

There is ample wisdom, experience and learnings of several lifetimes in daily quotes that we hear all the time. One such is "Health is Wealth". I never really understood this in entireity till several personal experiences have re-inforced this message over the past few years.
Key Learnings
1) Your body is your temple. Worship it. Devote 30 mins daily to physical well being.
2) Health is not only about body - It is wellness in body, mind & soul. Invest time for growth in each of these dimensions - Through yoga, "Me" time, Pranayama. Trust me - You will see and feel visible differences in about 2 weeks.
3) Watch what you eat; Eat Right. I am amazed at how well educated, knowledgeable, learned & so called "wise" people "repeatedly" making the most "foolish" choices in food.
I always maintain that if one does not give your health the required importance and priority; then DO NOT expect anyone else to. After all, that is the very least you owe to yourself & your dear ones.

It takes a moment...

It takes a moment to destroy a lifetime of work, hours of effort and baskets of hopes and dreams. It takes a wrong word / act / deed to put an end to what we cherish the most. And before we know, it's all over. Sometimes an apology can not undo what is done & Time will never come back. Nothing lasts forever in reality, but one can control when and how you would like something's to end. Some conclusions are permenant, Some are incomplete.
Think before you say anything - especially to those who matter, Watch your acts & deeds And most importantly, Pause to Listen. There are unpteem messages being relayed... Just pause

Gap between Knowing and Doing

Always wondered why there is so much gap between Knowing & Doing. Am sure that we all know what is good / right and what is bad / wrong. However much we acknowledge this, there is significant delay in conversion to action.
Why? Is it internal inertia? Is it external pressures? - Whatever it is, one must make focus, dedicated and disciplined efforts to act. Knowing is the right first step, but it is only the first step. One needs to consciously bridge the gap by Doing / Practicing. It certainly requires effort, will power and an intrinsic drive / determination. Nevertheless, make a start. You will be surprised with the satisfaction of Doing Something... Something Worthwhile... Something that makes a Difference...
