My Mother... My Lifeline

What can I write to my mother?
What can I write for my mother?
What can I write about my mother?
Words can in no way
Capture in entirety
The essence and emotions
That I feel for my mother

My mother..
The reason I am
The reason I am what I am
The reason I will be what I am meant to be

My mother..
The soft eyes, which speak so much
The tender touch, which means so much
The graceful gait, which is so unique to her
The gentle ways, which make all the difference
The loving gaze, which says so little and yet so much
The soothing voice, which heals every wound – of the body, mind, heart and soul
The everyday habits, which make my life so easy and my world go round..

When I was a child
She nurtured me
She protected me
She taught me
She guided me
She helped me
She supported me
She cared for me
She believed in me
And all along, she loved me unconditionally; But I didn’t really know what love was

During my teenage years
She listened to me
She observed me
She advised me (whether I paid heed or not)
She guided me
She protected me
She helped me
She supported me
She cared for me
She believed in me
And all along, she loved me unconditionally; But I loved her .....conditionally

When I was in my 20’s
She listened to me; and sometimes she asked me to listen
She advised me; and sometimes asked for advise
She guided me; and sometimes asked for guidance
She helped me; and sometimes asked for help
She supported me; and sometimes asked for support
She cared for me
She believed in me
And all along, she loved me unconditionally; and so did I but failed to express

And now that I am in my 30’s
We both listen to each other
We both advise each other
We both guide each other
We both help each other
We both support each other
We both care for each other
We both believe in each other
And we both love each other.. unconditionally

And looking back at my life
All throughout
If there was anger
If there was bitterness
If there was grief
If there was a brick wall
If there was a low
If there was a failure
If there was a storm
If there was an illness

If there was a tough decision to make
What really made a difference - EVERY SINGLE TIME
Was mom’s unconditional love
Was mom's attention
Was mom’s touch
Was mom’s hug
Was mom’s words (No matter what she said)
Was mom’s assurance
Was mom’s presence

And so today, when I look back on my life
If there was one thing that was constant
All throughout the journey
It was Simply Knowing that Mom would always be there – NO MATTER WHAT!

And now that I am a Mom too
And she is a grandmother
I truly genuinely acknowledge, appreciate and respect
All that my mother has done
To make me ME!

In conclusion, I say
As long as Mothers exist in the world
There will be unconditional love
There will be selflessness
There will be empathy
There will be learning
There will be growth
There will be change
There will be hope
There will be time
There will be patience
There will be answers
There will be questions
There will be dreams
There will be progress
There will be rainbows
There will be happiness
There will be a better future
There will be a bright tomorrow

  3. lovely lines and strung together so beautifully. literal sense wise the poetic element is quite good but in terms of emotional quotient the words have strung together a different chord :)
