Self-Love is the best love | Ways to love yourself this Valentine's Day

So it is February. The month of love as Valentine's Day is round the corner. And as I observe the many hues of love in the air, I wonder what does the 4 letter word "love" really mean?
Is there a universal definition of love?
Does love mean the same thing to you and me?

As I look at my own life, and observe the lives of people around me here's the thing about love that I discovered | There is no universal definition of love -- Love means different things to different people. Even for a single individual, the definition of love changes as one evolves in the journey of life; and the emotions, expressions, intensity and manifestations vary based on the relationships and phase of life you are in. However, what is universal is that Love has always been a very powerful, positive and transformational human emotion.

While Valentine's day is about celebrating 'love', I think one of the best tributes to 'love' is to love yourself unconditionally. So in this post, I'm sharing a few ways you can love yourself.

Smile and Laugh

Smile a lot, laugh a little or may be a lot today. It goes a long way in keeping your mind healthy, balanced in perspective and in better control of life. The simplest way is to do things which trigger your smiles - like reading jokes, watching a fun movie / cartoon, re-living the good happy moments of the past. Whatever it is, find a reason to smile / laugh - it can be a wonderful way to love yourself

Exercise | Get the body moving and heart racing

A good work-out makes you feel active, energetic, happy and upbeat, in addition to ensuring your overall physical health and well-being. According to this article from Harvard Health, in addition to the physical benefits "exercise changes the brain in ways that protect memory and thinking skills."

Indulge | in the culinary delights and exotics

There is something about good food which teases and pleases you in more than one way. A nice hearty meal which includes one / more of your favorite dishes is a good way to love yourself. For many, good food is about indulgence (high fat and high sugar content) - Such food can be divine. And it is OK to indulge once in a way

Dress Up | Look your best

Looking good makes you feel positive and confident, changes the way you think and also changes the way others perceive you. Of course, it can also get one / many compliments come your way, and who doesn't like that?

Spend time with people you love

It could in the real world or virtual world, but just spend time with people you love. It will make you happy and joyful, and hopefully them too.

Do one thing you really love today

Small, Big, Fun, Adventurous, Routine, Boring. If you enjoy doing it, do it today. It can be reading, music, dance, just giving a piece of your mind to someone, laughing with your kids, writing - Do one thing you really love today

Shopping / Retail Therapy

There is some unexplainable joy and happiness in shopping for yourself - Whatever you buy (clothes, footwear, perfumes, accessories, books, gadgets, cars, paintings, sculpture, art), and where ever you buy (online / offline): The head and heart usually feel a lot lighters when the purse strings are loose.

1 hour of silence in a day is a wonderful way to love yourself. Shut off the news, views, Google, phone, Facebook, Twitter, TV, worries - and just be silent. Feel free to think and feel what you want, but don't say anything. Try it. Definitely worth it!

Do a random good deed today

Doing a random good deed for a known or unknown face in the real or virtual world is a fantastic act. If you are wondering how, a few suggestions - Donate blood, Sponsor a meal for someone who can't afford it, sponsor education for someone who can't afford it, help someone on social media (answer a question, share a resource, write for a cause). Your good deed will make a difference to someone, and that is a wonderful way to give back for all the wonderful things you have in life
